WJWC: Houthis' atrocities against Taiz residents gross war crimes

Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) is following with extremely deep concern the gross violations of human rights perpetrated by the Houthi militias and pro-Saleh troops against civilians in Taiz, which include killings, displacement and demolition of civilian homes.

The WJWC condemns in the strongest possible terms the gruesome atrocities committed by the Houthis and Saleh's forces against Taiz population, explaining that the Houthis' heavy, indiscriminate bombardment of Taiz residential areas claimed 700 lives and wounded thousands of residents.

It further denounces the Houthis' brutal acts against civilians in Taiz as war crimes, describing the humanitarian situation there as extremely dire, especially as the mindless militia was still laying siege to the city, thereby denying civilians humanitarian aid and medical supplies.

The organization considers Taiz a stricken city, as the humanitarian and health situation is growing increasingly tragic due to the Houthis' ongoing shelling of hospitals, let alone the spread of dengue fever.

It maintained that the heinous crimes committed against civilians by the Houthis are not lapsable and that the perpetrators will be prosecuted.

The media advocacy group calls upon all human rights watchdogs and international aid agencies to offer urgent humanitarian assistance to Taiz province.
