Condemnation of the Assassination of Journalist Abdul Samad Al-Qadi

The assassination of journalist Abdul Samad Al-Qadi in Taiz, under the control of the internationally recognized government, represents a tragic event that has raised deep sorrow and grave concern.

According to preliminary information, an armed assailant riding a motorcycle opened fire on Al-Qadi on Ifthan Al-Mashhari Street before fleeing the scene. The journalist sustained multiple critical gunshot wounds and was transferred to Al-Thawra General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

This killing constitutes a serious violation of the right to life and a direct attack on freedom of expression. It occurs amid a troubling pattern of assassinations targeting journalists and human rights defenders in Taiz, in a context characterized by a persistent security vacuum, widespread weapons proliferation, and the absence of effective regulatory measures governing the carrying of firearms.

The competent authorities in Taiz Governorate are urged to take immediate and decisive action to identify and apprehend those responsible and to ensure their prosecution in accordance with the law. Emphasis is also placed on the legal obligation of state authorities to provide protection for journalists and media workers, enabling them to carry out their professional duties safely and without intimidation.

Deep condolences are extended to the family of Abdul Samad Al-Qadi and to his colleagues in the media community. Human rights and humanitarian organizations are urged to condemn this crime and to intensify efforts to ensure the protection of journalists and media professionals from ongoing attacks.
