Condemnation of Defamation Campaign Targeting Journalist Hanan Faza’a
A coordinated defamation and smear campaign has been launched against journalist Hanan Faza’a, a presenter at Al-Mahriya TV, across various media outlets and social media platforms.
The campaign has included personal attacks and abusive language, reflecting a serious deterioration in professional standards and ethical norms that should guide responsible journalism.
These actions represent a direct assault on the dignity of women journalists and undermine the principles of press freedom, professional integrity, and respect for human rights. Full solidarity is expressed with journalist Hanan Faza’a, and all forms of harassment and defamation aimed at silencing or discrediting women in the media sector are firmly rejected.
Ensuring a safe and enabling environment for women journalists is a fundamental obligation under national and international legal frameworks. The effective enforcement of legal protections and safeguards for media professionals—particularly women—remains essential.
Civil society organizations, along with human rights and humanitarian actors, are urged to demonstrate active solidarity with Hanan Faza’a and all women journalists facing similar attacks. Collective action remains critical to confronting defamation, upholding ethical standards, and safeguarding journalists’ right to work freely, safely, and with dignity.
