WJWC expresses deep concern over attacks on journalists

Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) expresses deep concern over the continuing attacks on journalists, describing them as savagery and a serious indication.

While WJWC strongly condemns the aggressive acts committed against journalists, it shoulders the authorities the responsibilities of protecting journalists who are under attacks on a daily basis.
WJWC decries the attacks on Alarbya TV's crew, confiscation of its camera, incitement and insults by soldiers and officers of the National Security while the crew covered an event in Sana'a.
The producer Ehab al-Shawafi, the cameraman Fuad al-Khadher, and the assistant of the cameraman Fathi al-Jabiri were prevented from media coverage, physically attacked, defamed and their cameras were confiscated by the National Security.
While WJWC expresses full solidarity with Alarbya's crew, it shoulders the authorities the responsibilities for protecting journalists.
WJWC expresses solidarity with Abdullah Ghurab, voicing deep concerns over incitement and accusations against Ghurab on the ground of practicing its press work.
It denounces the threats of killing against Mohammed al-Washa'ae, head of rights and freedoms in the Yemeni Journalists Network in Dhamar.
Al-Washa'ae was threatened by an official and tribal leaders on the ground of publishing an article revealing the corruption of an association in al-Hada district of Dhamar.
WJWC denounces violations committed against journalists during the past few days in al-Hodeydah governorate on the ground of a publication case.
The correspondent of al-Hodeidah News Network Mohammed Mahdi al-Aqil was attacked on February 25, 2014. He was beaten with batons and sticks, and his camera was confiscated by a gang of the Tihami Movement.
The gang was led by Ahmed Salem Zal, Ahmed Hajar and al-Aborah due to cover a blockade of a street in Bajel by elements of the Tihami Movement.
WJWC denounces the abduction of the journalist Esam al-Sufyani by unidentified men when returning from his house in Taiz city.
It also denies the threats against al-Shara'a Newspaper correspondent Mohammed al-Sahbani in Dimnat Khadeer by an officer of Dimnat Khadeer's security administration on the ground of publishing press articles.
Al-Sahbani wrote about a security campaign led by the director of the security administration Sadeq Abu Fara'a. He was threatened with physical elimination.
Women Journalists Without Chains also denounces the threats against the journalist Safwan al-Fa'eshi. He was threatened by the Criminal Investigation's officers on the ground of writing a report about the leader of the General People Congress, Ahmed al-Kohlani.
The report which criticized some behaviors of al-Kohlani was published in al-Khabar news website.
WJWC denounces the second attack on the journalist Abdul-Wasa'a Rajeh who works as a correspondent for Akhbar Alyawm Newspaper in Hajjah governorate.
Rajeh was attacked by a security officer, Mohammed Sharaf al-Deen, inside the security administration of Hajjah. The officer insulted Rajeh and threatened him in front of dozens of people existing in the security administration.
WJWC also condemns the storming into the building of al-Sabah al-Jadeed Newspaper in al-Hudeydah governorate, looting its possessions and equipment on March 03, 2013 .
WJWC denounces the sentence issued on March 10, 2014 by a court in al-Baydha governorate against the journalist Majed Karoot, a correspondent of al-Masdar Online.
Karoot was convicted due to publishing corruption documents against the former director of telecommunication in al-Baydha governorate.
