Yemeni Journalists Syndicate plans to mount media campaign to release abductees

In conjunction with World Press Freedom Day on May 3, the Yemeni Journalists' Syndicate (YJS), along with a group of media workers and activists, plans to launch a large-scale electronic campaign to support journalists kidnapped by the Iran-backed Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted president Ali Saleh.

Based on a statement issued by the YJS, the campaign is aimed at speaking up against violations committed by the coup’s militias against journalists and media workers in Sanaa and areas under their control, and demanding immediate release of detained ones.

The campaign comes in light of the escalation of violations, which have seemingly reached a very dangerous stage when the Houthi militias sentenced Yahya Abdulraqib al-Jubaihi to death.

More than 16 journalists are still being abducted by Saleh-Houthi militias, while another one is being captured by al-Qaeda in Hadramout.

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has appealed to all its members, colleagues, activists, jurists, politicians and all groups and components of public opinion to interact with the campaign, which will be launched next Wednesday by launching the hashtag #SaveYemeniJournalists.
