Yemeni journalist Hadeel Yamani wins 2017 Courage in Journalism Award

Yemeni journalist Hadeel Al Yamani, Al Jazeera correspondent in Taiz province, has won 2017 Courage in Journalism Award granted to women journalists who set themselves apart by their extraordinary bravery.

It is worth noting that another Yemeni woman was honored this year when she was awarded the 2017 International Women's Courage Award at a ceremony at the US State Department. Mrs. Fadia Najib Thabet serves as a child protection officer who reports on violations against children during armed conflict in Yemen.

Hadeel al-Yamani, born in 1991, belongs to the Directorate of Qubaita in the Taiz province. Based on her Facebook page, she is currently studying media at University of Sana'a, and she aspires to obtain a master's degree and doctorate.

"My father is an open-minded but to a certain extent," says Al Yamani. "He serves as an educational researcher while my mother is a teacher at al-Shoukani Institute in Sana’a. I have two sisters and one brother and I am the oldest."
