Ar WJWC condemns abduction of Karman, Omar and Kahla, demanding immediate release of all abductees
Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) strongly condemns abduction and enforced disappearance of Mohammed Abdel Salam Karman, Omar Yassin Abdel Aziz and Abdel Rahman Kahla by security forces loyal to Houthi-Saleh militia.
The three activists were kidnapped from Aser area in Yemen’s militia-held capital Sana'a on July 8, 2017.
In a press statement, Karman’s family stated that security forces belonging to Houthi-Saleh militia kidnapped its older brother Mohammad Abd al-Salam Karman, along with his colleague Omar Yassin Abdel Aziz and their friend Abdel Rahman Kahla, from the Aser area in the capital Sana'a and held them captive in national security prison.
The family’s statement confirmed that it is not allowed to visit the three detainees despite repeated promises.
Women Journalists Without Chains is also deeply concerned at serious violations, including abductions, detention, enforced disappearances and torture, perpetrated against innocent civilians by the Houthi militia and Saleh's forces.
While demanding the immediate release of the three abductees and all of those forcibly disappeared in detention centers, the organization holds the militia fully responsible for the safety of their lives.
The organization stresses the need to put an end to these violations and crimes committed against citizens in the capital Sana'a and all the militia-controlled governorates, noting that “these crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations and are flagrant violations of international laws and norms.
Women Journalists Without Chains calls upon all local and international human rights organizations to pressure the militia to stop human rights abuses and release the kidnapped Mohammed Karman, Omar Yassin and Abdel Rahman Kahala and all those abducted and forcibly disappeared in the militia’s jails.
