Suspectedly poisoned journalist’s family subjected to threats

The journalist’s relatives Mohammed Al Absi have received threats demanding to bury their suspectedly assassinated member’s body and close the investigation file regarding the circumstances of his death, according to Almasdaronline.

"We have received a number of calls from unknown numbers giving us advice in the form of threat to bury his body and close the investigation file,” the news website quoted a relative of Al Absi as saying.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, mentioned that Al Absi’s family has seriously discussed the burial’s issue, especially after the threats received in recent days.

Al Absi, who was working as an investigative reporter on a number of local and political newspapers, had investigated recently how Houthis were controlling the black market and weapons, and he exposed the methods undertaken by the Houthis that led to the besieging of Yemenis.

Reports have speculated he had a heart attack while the family says he may have been poisoned, but the IFJ urged media and all parties not to speculate about the causes of the death.

"We are troubled by the passing of Mohamed al-Absi in such unclear circumstances and support his family and the YJS in their demands for a serious and independent investigation in the case as well as an autopsy by a doctor representing the union to clarify the cause of his death," said IFJ President, Philippe Leruth.
