Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemns arrest of journalist at security checkpoint in Marib

Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) has condemned the detention of the journalist Nabil al-Sa’fani at a security point in Marib located in the east of Yemen.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, YJS said it has been reported by the journalist Nabil al-Sa’fani that he had been detained and interrogated without any legal justification at a security checkpoint in Marib, while coming back from Malaysia via Say’un airport.

Al-Sa’fani had been arrested and his passport was taken away from him on Friday while he was on his way to the capital of Sana’a, according the press release of YJS.

He was quoted as saying that he was taken on board a military vehicle to a building far from the checkpoint, where he was held in a room with 3 investigators who checked him, taking his phone and papers, and then returned them to him the next morning.

The journalists’ union has called on the concerned authorities in Marib to quickly investigate the incident, hold the perpetrators accountable and not harass journalists.
