Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) has issued a grave warning about the intensifying Israeli military campaign in Gaza,
asserting that the scale of the violence, destruction, and human suffering now unfolding constitutes a deliberate effort to annihilate the Palestinian population and dismantle Gaza as a viable homeland.
In a strongly worded statement, the organization declared that the atrocities taking place have gone far beyond the limits of international law, morality, or military necessity. “What is happening in Gaza is not a temporary aggression—it is a systematic, state-led operation designed to erase an entire city, its people, and its history,” WJWC said.
The escalation reached a critical point on May 18, when the Israeli military officially launched a wide-scale ground offensive in northern and southern Gaza, under the name “Operation Gideon’s Chariots.” This assault, greenlit by the Israeli Cabinet earlier this month, was accompanied by clear political and military declarations aiming to reshape Gaza’s geography and demographics. According to official Israeli statements, the operation’s objectives include the imposition of new facts on the ground through mass starvation, widespread killing, and the restriction of humanitarian aid—actions which WJWC says are consistent with genocidal intent.
Field data reviewed by the organization indicate that in just the past three days, Israeli forces have killed over 500 Palestinians, displaced approximately 300,000 people—mostly from northern Gaza—and destroyed more than 1,000 residential units. These developments have deepened an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis in one of the most densely populated regions on earth.
Nearly 70% of Gaza’s territory is now under effective occupation, designated as “red zones” where Palestinians are either forcibly expelled or barred from returning. WJWC emphasized that these forced displacements—conducted amid airstrikes and without provision of safe corridors—are in direct violation of international humanitarian law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention.
“In these so-called red zones, any human presence is met with deadly force,” WJWC reported. “Civilians attempting to flee bombardment have been shot at. Medical and rescue personnel have been deliberately targeted. Entire families are buried beneath the rubble of their homes while emergency crews are prevented from reaching them.”
The organization further documented the targeting of civilian infrastructure, including hundreds of strikes on homes, tents for the displaced, and essential service facilities. The Al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis, which Israel designated as a “safe zone,” has been subjected to relentless airstrikes, killing dozens and igniting fires in makeshift shelters.
In central Gaza, displaced families remain without access to adequate food, water, or shelter, trapped in what WJWC describes as “zones of survival in name only.” The so-called “humanitarian areas” lack the minimum requirements for life, and are frequently targeted despite their designation.
WJWC has also recorded the systematic destruction of Gaza’s health infrastructure. At least 36 hospitals have gone out of service due to direct targeting, denial of fuel and medical supplies, and siege tactics. On May 13, Israeli forces bombed the Gaza European Hospital and its surroundings, killing civilians—including entire families and journalists—and rendering the facility non-operational. Similar attacks have disabled the Nasser Medical Complex, Al-Ahli Hospital, and the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital.
The organization published visual documentation showing corpses and wounded individuals lying in hospital corridors, untreated due to the collapse of the medical system. In many cases, victims remain trapped under debris as emergency crews are either targeted or lack the equipment to operate safely.
According to WJWC, since the beginning of this renewed phase of the war, Israeli forces have launched more than 300 attacks on civilian homes, temporary shelters, and public facilities. Neighborhoods like Al-Shuja’iya and Beit Hanoun have witnessed destruction rates nearing 90%. In total, more than 330,000 residential units have been partially or completely destroyed since the start of the war.
These attacks are not isolated or incidental, WJWC emphasized, but part of a larger campaign to forcibly restructure Gaza’s urban and demographic landscape. “Israeli authorities and private companies are openly executing policies consistent with statements made by Israeli leaders, including the Prime Minister—who is wanted by the International Criminal Court—calling for the total destruction of Palestinian homes to force the population into exile.”
The organization’s statement concluded with an urgent call to the international community: “The continued impunity granted to the Israeli occupation is enabling the systematic extermination of Palestinians in Gaza. This is not merely a human rights crisis—it is a moral and legal emergency that demands immediate intervention.”
WJWC is urging the United Nations and the Security Council to:
- Take immediate steps to halt the genocide in Gaza.
- Impose international sanctions on Israel to deter further crimes.
- Ensure the safe and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
- Provide international protection for civilians, particularly journalists and medical staff.
The organization stressed that inaction by the international community would constitute historical complicity in one of the gravest atrocities of the 21st century. “This is not a moment for neutrality or delay,” WJWC stated. “What is unfolding in Gaza is a calculated, unfolding genocide that threatens the entire framework of international law and global human rights.”
