Journalist Imran’s health worsens, family expresses grave concern

The family of the detained journalist, Abdul Khaliq Imran, has voiced concern about his deteriorating health condition after it was reported that he suffers from severe spinal pain, while the Houthi militias refuse to transfer him to hospital for treatment.

“Houthi group and officials in Sana’a’s security services bear full responsibility for any consequences from his deteriorating health condition”, the family stated in a statement.

According the family’s statement, Abdul Khaliq Imran is suffering from severe pains in back and spine, and his health continues to deteriorate while Houthis reject to provide anything to help him recover from the bad condition he has suffered as a result of torture in detention by militias.

The statement added that since his arrest in July 2015, Imran has been subjected to various forms of torture, sometimes on daily basis, in different prisons he was held in, most recently in the Political Security Prison where he is now.

It has been pointed out that all detailed journalists are suffering right now from poor conditions in detention and lack of proper nourishment and health care.

The family in its statement has not forgotten to thank Yemeni Journalists Syndicate and International Federation of Journalists for positive response and interest as well as all activists and those do care and show solidarity with them, Abdul Khaliq Imran and his colleagues in detention.

It has sent urgent appeals to local and international human rights organizations, mainly United Nations, lawyers and journalists to take action for the release of Abdul Khaliq Imran and his fellow abductees.
