Houthis kidnap pro-journalist in Sanaa

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate said that it had received information from fellow journalists saying that the journalist Abed al-Mahthari, the editor of the Al-Diyar weekly newspaper, had been kidnapped by the Houthis-Saleh militants in Sanaa.

In a statement, the Syndicate said that the kidnapping came "after a day of threats by the Houthi group leaders in a meeting with a number of journalists threatened to go prison and punishment on the background of opinion and publication issues."

The statement condemned the kidnapping of Abed al-Muhaddari and the repressive threats against journalists, also called for the speedy release of their colleague and not compromising his security and safety.

The cessation of the speech of incitement against journalists and the loading of the weights of politicians and military must be stopped. the statement mentioned.

Moreover, the Syndicate called on all organizations concerned with freedom of expression, especially the Union of Arab Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists, to join hands with Yemeni journalists who suffer of terrorism and threats for years.

Despite al Mahthari was close to the Houthis and their allies since they took control of the capital, Sana'a, but when criticizing the group and its corruption, the Houthis took him to jail.
