WJWC calls for release of journalist Boutar

The journalist Noureddine Boutar serving as the director of the radio station and news website Mosaique FM has been arrested in Tunisia for reasons related to the radio’s editorial policy, according to his lawyer Dalila Mosaddeq.

The Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) has seen in his arrest and interrogation about his professional work a reflection of an ongoing crackdown on freedom of expression in Tunisia.
"The increasing prosecutions and investigations of journalists and activists in Tunisia pose a threat to the remaining gains of the Jasmine Revolution, as freedom of expression is one of its most important gains," added the WJWC.
The organization has also called for dropping charges against Tunisian journalists and activists, and for respecting their right to free expression, as well as for ending all forms of crackdown on media professionals, journalists, and their relevant activities.
