Armed gang assaults photojournalist Ben Aaqilah in Mukalla

Yemen’s Journalists Syndicate (YJS) has condemned the attack on the photojournalist, Khalid Ben Aaqilah, by an armed group in the port city of Mukalla, east of Yemen.

According to a statement issued today, YJS received a complaint of assault from the colleague Ben Aaqilah who reported that a 20-armed group attacked him while he was filming a location crowded with cars next to a football stadium in Mukalla, and that they threatened him with physical liquidation.

The statement described the accident as “barbaric conduct” that is contrary to moral and human values.

Yemen’s Journalists Syndicate has demanded the concerned security and military authorities to catch the culprits who pass themselves off as security men.

IFJ’s affiliate in Yemen also pointed out that the fellow photojournalist was already threatened with arrest in military intelligence, calling for providing him with the necessary protection and non-recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.
