Amin al-Shafaq, a youth activist, was released on Friday after he had been abducted for 487 days by the Houthi militia.
Almasdaronline news website’s reporter has reported that the release took place as a part of “abductees and prisoners exchange deal” between the Houthi militia and the Popular Resistance in Taiz province.
The Houthi militia had kidnapped the activist and educational researcher, al-Shafaq, while participating in what was known as “Water March” that aimed to break the siege on the city of Taiz in mid-2015.
During the last period, all mediation efforts had failed to convince the Iran-backed group to release him.
Al-Shafaq served as the head of the Media Committee in “Freedom Bay Square” during the February Revolution in 2011 as well as a director of directive administration affiliated to the Office of Education in Ibb governorate.
Ameer al-Hindi is another released prisoner who was held captive for 677 days in the militia’s jails in Ibb.
Six other people from the same province were also among the released list after they had been kept in Houthi prisons for over a year.
It is worth mentioning that the Houthi militia had kidnapped 33 activists hailing from the govern ate of Ibb on 12 October 2015 while they were in the process of organizing a solidarity march with the besieged people of Taiz province under the name of Water March.
All kidnapped activists were released that time except Amin al-Shafaq who had been held in detention for almost a year and a half.
