Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) has condemned the detention of journalist Sadiq Shili, Director of the Media Center of the National Resistance,
by the Houthi militia. Shili was taken from his home in Mokha on September 10 and transferred to an undisclosed location, with no charges announced and his family denied all contact.
WJWC described his enforced disappearance as a grave violation of fundamental rights and expressed concern for his safety. The arrest comes amid a surge of abuses in Mokha following recent military developments, including raids on homes, arbitrary detentions, and the seizure of media offices and equipment.
According to WJWC, dozens of journalists and their families have fled Mokha for Aden under dire humanitarian conditions, requiring urgent shelter, protection, and relief aid.
The organization demanded Shili’s immediate and unconditional release, disclosure of his whereabouts, and access to family, legal counsel, and medical care. It also called for an end to the persecution of media workers, restoration of confiscated property, and protection for displaced journalists.
WJWC urged Yemeni authorities, local bodies, and international organizations to act swiftly to safeguard journalists and document violations in Mokha. The organization emphasized that journalists are non‑combatants and must never be targeted, warning that attacks on media professionals undermine press freedom and the public’s right to information.
